St Ives in December
Christmas in St Ives
This year Christmas in St Ives is bringing together a whole range of events, groups and individuals from across St Ives and Carbis Bay. St Ives will be a hub of activity. Old favourites from last year will also return. Santa will arrive in the harbour by lifeboat on December 6 followed by a parade around town then the Christmas Tree lights switch-on. The Christmas Party Train will operate on selected trains in the Saturdays before Christmas between St Erth and St Ives and Santa can be seen in his regular grotto at the Glass Tree in Fore Street (all proceeds to charity) – all starting on Saturday December 7. That weekend the whole town will feature art and craft demonstrations and the town Treasure Hunt.
There will also be special events for children, including art, craft and a chocolate workshops. On December 21 and 22 the town will play host to a weekend of festive food and drink, including another of last year’s big successes, the Big Christmas Food Market in the Guildhall.
The Kidz R Us panto this year is Dick Whittington and a Puppet Panto will be on at the Puppet Theatre at the Boathouse. There will also be plenty of opportunities to join choirs and carol singers at various venues including the Tate and Carbis Bay Hotel.
Like last year many of the shops in St Ives will take part in the Shop Window Display competition and visitors can vote for their favourite display.
A key drive for this year’s activities was to make Christmas in St Ives a community-wide event.
